Vintage Bicycle Posters
Since bicycles have been around since the 1800′s there have been painted canvas, poster art, advertising poster art and photographs which show various forms of the bicycle.
The first bicycle was made of wood and had no pedals and was know as the draisine or Dandy Horse in 1818 in Germany. The operator used his legs on the ground to propel himself down the road. I imagine he used up a lot of shoe leather this way and stopping a lot more shoe or boot leather.
They had to be custom made to fit the stride of the rider and were expensive to make.
The 1860′s brought the introduction of the velocipede in France. Hubs, rotaries and pedals were added. This was just one of many more inventions to come by others trying to perfect the ideal riding cycle. Two wheels, three wheels, or four wheels they looked different from today’s bicycle. The general look was the same but the size of the tires, the handle bars and seating were some big differences to today’s bicycle.
There are all kinds of posters to choose from in vintage Bicycle Art.
