I was reading last night about lucid dreaming but I don’t really understand it…can anyone explain it simply?
An article in Tricycle, a Buddhist magazine said enlightenment can be reached through lucid dreaming but it was very confusing to me. How can you deliberately dream when your consciousness is aware? Has anyone out there done this–lucid dreaming?
It’s more like being in control of yourself while dreaming… allowing your consciousness to be in control of you while your subconscious shows you the images.
Yes, I have done lucid dreaming. It’s hard to explain and harder to do if you have never done it before. But I have found it very helpful once I worked at it. One way that was helpful for me was to think about certain things while I was falling asleep… while trying to remember I AM in control of myself, just not in complete control of the images I will see when I do fall asleep. You have to make sure you are relaxed when you go to sleep, drink water for at least a couple of hours before going to bed and try not to think too much on what has happened during that day (like what TV show was on before you went to bed… or what music you were listening to) as these things tend to shift your lucid dream to just a regular dream and you lose control of yourself.
