Is it possible to change my forks on my particular type of bike?

I own a Raleigh R-20 mountain bike. Yes, I know, it’s a dinosaur. But the old mare is in great shape and I’m not interested in buying a new ride. I realize that it would probably be justifiable to buy a bike that is set up that way but I am determined to follow through on this.

Yes, it’s not that difficult. The steer tube comes in two sizes comonly , 1″ and 1.25″ and some metric also. Your bike is probably 1″, if so get the same size. There are threaded and threadless forks and head sets for both. The head set size has to fit your steering frame size. You should be able to get help from a local bike shop. Most of the sizes are standards.
I put suspension forks on a $85 Huffy years ago for the heck of it and they worked well for years.
