when you store your bike for winter, how do you properly clean the chain?

are you supposed to take out the chain and then clean it or clean it while it’s still intact on the bike?

You keep it on the bike, rotate the rear wheel spray it with a light cleaner (I sometimes use carb cleaner that is compatible with rubber parts), and use a grunge brush on the whole chain, to clean it, wipe it down with a shop rag, and spray a good coat of chain oil, like Chain Wax on the links, being sure to get the individual links saturated, and plates completely lubricated.
