Bike Leash
How do you train your dog not to run away when you let them loose?
My dog stays by us but if he sees a bike or rabbit he runs away plus we live by a main road. So i now always have a leash on him all the time but i want him to be free so please help. shock collar is OUT of the question.

You’ll need to work on the dog’s response to the things that excite him.
Cars you can see coming, so give him a loose leash and Sit/Stay command.
I like to add a massage over the scruff of the neck.
You can rehearse with a game indoors.
Use the Sit/Stay
Show the dog a treat or toy and walk away, enforcing the Stay.
Drop the item and return to the dog;
Stand next to him quietly for a moment and release to go get it.
It’s a little more difficult with the rabbits since they’re so random.
Outside where it occurs
Have the dog up and playing tug of war or some other close play.
On a longer, loose leash (make one from rope 10 to 15 feet)
Throw the toy and stop him from going after it without a command.
When he turns to go running after it, correct him to stay close. “Wait” is a good word.
You want him to learn this one on his feet.
Give it a moment until he looks at you.
Count to 2 and let him go after it.
both exercises teach patience and cooperation.
When he ignores the cars and rabbits
celebrate.
Make NOT chasing more fun than chasing.
