Bicycle Water Bottle Cage
Any tips for 18 mile bicycle ride?
Next monday I am planning a surprise visit to my friend. It is an 18 mile bicycle ride on a (most of the time) empty county road. It has a reputation for speeding because no police patrol the road, but is most of the time deserted. It is a one way road with about 7 intersections on the way. I was wondering if there was anything I needed to know about riding on the road. The bicycle I’m using has a water bottle cage and rear view mirror, but is there anything else you would suggest? Is 18 miles a big deal on a bicycle? Any other suggestions?

18 miles is no big deal on a bike, but don’t forget that you will have to return, making 36 miles altogether. This is a bit more serious if you don’t ride much. Wear bright coloured clothing, the goal is to be as visible as possible. If you ride after dark, you will need lights to see and to be seen. Ride in a steady and predictable manner. You have a mirror, use it to watch for cars coming from behind. Don’t ride in the gutter, stay about 3 feet from the edge of the road so that cars see you better, you can always move towards the edge of the road, but it is dangerous to veer into traffic if you should encounter a pothole or obstruction
