Bicycle Tube
I am trying to determine the correct size tube for my bicycle tire. It is a Raleigh hybrid bike from ’96 or so?
I removed the tube and it has 2 markings on it. It says both 27×1.75 and 23×1.75. The tire on the rim measures a little more than 26 inches. Also, do you recommend the self sealing tube?
It’s a 27″ tube. The tire is called 27″ because it’s diameter once mounted and inflated on the wheel is 27″. That’s why the rim is slightly smaller at 26″.
The tire itself should also have the size either labeled or molded onto the sidewall.
I have had no experience with self sealing tires. I don’t bother with them because I ride on good quality tires by Panaracer, Specialized, or Continental. You can get these with a tough casing to resists most punctures and cuts. They end up being significantly lighter than all that goo too.
Most of the flats I’ve had are because I’ve forgotten to inflate the tire enough or breaking a valve. In other words, it’s my fault, not the tube’s.
