Bicycle Racks For Cars
Can I be pulled over for having a bicycle mounted on the back of my car?
I have a bike rack that mounts to the trunk of my sedan. Could i be pulled over and ticketed if say, it covers up the license plate (I think the the bike tire does once it is mounted)?
My state, your state may, and likely will, differ.
It is possible. If the bike or carrier blocks the plate so it cannot be seen 15′ or closer. Also if the carrier/bike combo stick out the back more than 12″ without a red warning (like the wheel reflector) then you can be ticketed.
Most cops are not going to bother you unless you are driving like a jerk or act like one if stopped, but there is always the one out of thousands who doesn’t like bikes. He always seems to be working traffic.
