Ever heard of the Sheldon Brown bicycle locking strategy?

The question is: can’t I just cut the spokes, and then cut the rim? That would ease up the tension, wouldn’t it?
It would take a long time to cut through enough spokes, the rim, and the tyre bead wires, and time is the thief’s worst enemy.
The person who stole my neighbour’s bike cut through a u-lock, and returned 2 days later to cut through a padlock on my shed door, and the 2 cable locks on my bike.
Neither bike was seen again.
There was a spate of cycle thefts in my area, all from gardens, locked sheds, and locked garages, in at least one case, moving a car to get to the bike.
If someone wants your bike that badly, they’ll get it. All you can do is make it not worth the risk of them being caught. Two locks will take twice as long to cut through, and leaving the cycle where it can be seen helps.
