Why is my LED glowing orange?
I have a light toy for bicycle that consists of 5 LEDs, when powered with 2xAA batteries, they glow: Red, Orange, Blue, Orange, Red. I detached the blue LED and when I manually power the LED with the batteries, it glows orange! why is that? how do I glow it blue?
I have tried many types of resistor and they were able to resist the current, making the LED glows less bright, but it still glows ORANGE.. how to make it glow blue just when still attached to the board in the toy?
LED’s require a very low voltage to operate correctly and usually use a small resistor to limit the current to 20-30 milliamps or so You have bipassed this protection circuity and are running far more current through the LED causing the Orange color. This will shorten the LED’s life. If you want to operate it unhooked from the circuit just attach a 300 to 1000 ohm resistor in series and it should work fine for years.
