Even if your not in traffic the act of having to weave around to get close enough to hear the other person is dangerous since it takes you attention away from looking for obstacles in the road while you are riding. That is why an intercom system would be a great safety feature for your next family outing.
GSI has developed an bicycle intercom system which will work for bikers and motorcyclists too. You could use this system for hiking, skiing, climbing and even hunting to stay in touch with any two or more person activity.
This system comes with Bluetooth wireless function and audio cables for wired use as well. This enables you to talk to others up to a maximum range of 3200 feet away or about 6 tenths of a mile, while traveling up to 90 miles an hour. Can be set for listening to music, getting GPS directions, and listening to phone calls.
The bicyle intercom is waterproof and weather resistant, so is suitable for all kinds of outdoor acivities. Is designed to fit motorcycle and skiing helmets.
This is a two person set-up. You can expand the system up to 6 by buying three systems.
