bicycle gears repair? what should i do?
i have a 26″ 21 speed mountain bike, and the gears are messed up. for instance, if i’m in 3rd gear, im really in 4th, 2nd 3rd, and so forth. and when you shift into 1st, you go from 1 to nothing shifter. for example, im in 2nd gear and it says 1 on the shifter, i have to go below the 1 to shift into first. i have 3 gears up front. the chain will only stay on the middle gear and not move to the smaller gear to the left, or the larger to the right.
This is easy to fix. Your shift able is loose. You will find cable barrel adjusters on the derailleur and likely your shifter too. screw the adjusters out while in 1st gear until the cable has no slack. Test it and adjust until it shifts from 1 to 2 correctly, then all gears will be indexed correctly and you’re good to go.
