Bicycle Gear Shift Cables
HELP bicycle won’t shift gears.?
ok so i borrowed my buddys bike and i took it out and it was riding fine and then it got into 6th gear and now wont shift out of 6th. the cable running to the rear gears is really loose and even if i try to manually put the chain on a different gear, it just goes back to 6th. what do i do???
Sounds like the cable running to the rear derailleur came loose. If the chain stays on 6th gear, use the shifter as if it would be on 6th gear normally. Now at the bike of the bike, where the rear derailleur is (the gear shifter), tighten down the cable that runs to it. Make sure the cable is taught when you tighten it. Depends on what you’re derailleur setup is, but you might need a small wrench, an Alan key, or a screwdriver.
Just tighten it back down and you’ll be fine.
