Bicycle Gear Shift Cable
help with Rear Derailleur?
My friend just gave me a bicycle which he hadnt used in quite sometime..the rear derailleur is kinda jammed, i mean there is almost no action when i shift gears,and it doesnt even maintain the chain tension..but is there any way i can overhaul the derailleur so that i can some of the action back into it ?
the shifter seems fine, in fact when i shift gears i can see the gear cable slacking, because there’s no action in the derailleur
Spray the derailleur down with PB Blaster (get if from an Auto Store), let it sit for abit and wipe it off. Manually move the derailleur to try to loosen it, if necessary apply more Blaster.
The put the shifter in the position that the cable is the slackest, loosen the bolt on the derailleur that holds the cable, and pull the cable tense. Re-tighten it with the cable pulled through. Apply a bit of lube (teflon based like Triflow) on any cable contact points. This should at least get the derailleur moving abit. This should have it moving again.
