How do I get air into my bike tires when the hand air pump I have won’t fit on the valve?
I was riding my bike the other day and got a slow leak in one of my tires. I went to use the bicycle hand air pump I got for Father’s Day, but discovered I couldn’t use it because the part of the pump that attaches to the valve was different than the conventional valve on the bike. Apparently, thinks have changed in the bike world because the Slime Presta tire pressure gauge I also received has a similar connection.What’s the story?
As stated, your pump will probably do both or an adapter may be needed.
There are two types of valves Presta or Schrader
Presta are the skinny ones that you probably have on your bike. If this is the case don’t forget you will have to unscrew the nipple lock on the top of the valve before air can be put in (or taken out), the lock doesn’t come all the way off, just to the top of the nipple so it can be pressed down into the stem.
BTW if your tire has a slow leak, replace the tube. It’s just going to get worse
